Coronavirus in India – Know which states are affected worst?

The Coronavirus has been amongst the deadliest epidemics that the world has ever encountered. The virus which originated in China, has reached more than 100 countries and has been causing deaths in almost all countries where it has been reported. The toll continues to rise with each passing day.

The virus originated in late 2019 in China and started spreading throughout the world. India, though a neighbor of China, remained unaffected from the Coronavirus outbreak with no positive case diagnosed till January 2020. However, things started changing soon as there are over 50 positive cases, which are diagnosed with a positive Covid-19 infection.

The disease has so far claimed over 3600 lives globally. The Covid-19 has been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO). In India, most of the cases have been affected by the virus as they travelled to the countries that have reported high number of infected cases, but there have been cases where the infection was transmitted locally.

The Indian Medical facilities have been able to cure 3 cases out of the total 50 cases as of now.

Kerala – First State In India to be affected

The first Indian state to report a positive Coronavirus case was Kerala. The affected person was a student, who was studying in China and was on his visit to home on the occasion of the Lunar New Year. two more cases were reported in Kerala, which forced the local government to declare an emergency in the state in February. The state medical authorities immediately developed an isolated medical environment and transferred all the three affected in quarantine. Also in February, three year old child was diagnosed with the viral disease and was admitted in the hospital for check up.

There were no further positive cases reported in India till March, when suddenly 47 cases have been reported in a span of just eight days. The cases have been from twelve Indian states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Rajasthan - Highest Cases so far

Out of all the Indian states, Rajasthan has the highest number of positive cases. There are 17 cases from Rajasthan which includes 15 Italian nationals, who were affected while they were on a trip to India. A senior Italian couple was also diagnosed with the disease and was admitted in the quarantine zone in Jaipur for the treatment of the disease and later shifted to Delhi.

The Indian Council of Medical Research has set up 52 special medical facilities across the country for testing samples for Covid-19 infection. The government has also evacuated 890 Indian nationals from China. The evacuated people have been tested twice for safety purposes. The evacuated people have been quarantined immediately as a precautionary measure.

The government is taking all necessary actions to prevent the Coronavirus from further spreading, but as a responsible citizen, there are various measures to protect yourself from Coronavirus. It is recommended to avoid travelling and group gatherings, until it is very necessary. Let us all come together and help the government and Indian Council of Medical Research in fighting against this deadly epidemic.
