Why this matters to you

Salaried employees

If you send money home to parents in a village or small town, the same rupee now buys less there than it did in January — faster than it is shrinking in your own city.

Founders

Rural India is the volume engine for FMCG, two-wheelers and small-ticket finance. A customer facing 6% inflation has less room for anything beyond the essentials.

Business leaders

One national inflation number can mislead pricing, wage and demand plans. A 1.2-point rural premium is large when your margins are thin.
